Finding Inspiration from Jerusalem's Rose Garden

It’s always a busy time during Elul with the run of to the Jewish New Year. If one makes the best of the month of Elul, you will have spent some time reflecting on the year that has been and preparing for the year ahead. You may have noticed our worksheet, available on this website, to assist you in Preparing for Rosh HaShanah.  If you completed the worksheet, you will already have the beginnings of your road map for the year 5778. If you have not done so, not to worry, you can still obtain the worksheet. The questions are just as relevant even though Rosh HaShanah is already behind us.

We are now well into the Jewish festival of Sukkot. Sukkot is one of the three pilgrim festivals. Since we do not have the Temple, Chol HaMoed has become a time to go into nature and enjoy the beauty that Israel has to offer. Here in Jerusalem we are blessed with a number of special places to visit. Today, we took a little time to go to the Jerusalem Rose Garden. It is certainly a place where you can find some inspiration and focus on what is important in your life. There are plenty of spots to enjoy the green open spaces and meditate or contemplate.

There is plenty of variety in the nature. Of the roses themselves, there are over 400 different types of roses. This gives an array of colours, sizes and shapes. What a wonderful way to remind oneself that G-d is infinite and certainly can assist one with whatever your goals are, especially for the new year.

I love the light as it shines on the roses as seen in the image above. What an uplifting scene in so many ways.

Roses are not all that one sees in the stunning 19 acres worth of Jerusalem Rose Garden. There is also a beautiful pond. Looking at the water and the reflections in the water is so very calming.

As you can see, the clouds are starting to formulate and we left just in the nick of time before the gentle rain began to fall. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the relaxation and inspiration gained from spending time in the nature found right here in Jerusalem.
